Favorite Isaac Asimov Quotes

Written by Dixie Flatline

Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.

Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today – but the core of science fiction, its essence has become crucial to our salvation if we are to be saved at all.

Humanity has the stars in its future, and that future is too important to be lost under the burden of juvenile folly and ignorant superstition.

I love several of Asimov’s quotes as well. He is one of my favorite writers. These are two of my favorite:

“It is in meeting the great tests that mankind can most successfully rise to great heights. Out of danger and restless insecurity comes the force that pushes mankind to newer and loftier conquests.”

“The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not, ‘Eureka!’ (‘I found it!’) but rather, ‘Hmm… that’s funny…’”

The first one is from his novel The End of Eternity. Have you ever read it? It’s kind of hard to find, but you can download an electronic copy of it for free from various websites. It is the single best science-fiction book that I recommend above all others to people who are looking for a great read that they probably haven’t encountered before. It’s probably his best novel, but of course it is out of print. I’d better stop before I start sounding like Jeffrey Tucker…
