At 2:30, the Chinese participant mentions that markets can correct themselves, and Soros argues they cannot.

Notice how Soros stumbles when he talks about how markets are smarter than regulators, then claims that only regulators can stop perpetual market failure. And the questioner does a wonderful job of pointing out, that only expansion of the monetary base can provide the necessary environment for these large booms, and Soros starts blinking, which sometimes is a sign of discomfort (approx. 4:30)

Great video, and wonderful to see the oligarchs challenged, particularly in Asia, which is where the hope for rational, free market economics, specifically Austrian Economics, has enormous potential to take hold. As the flows of capital shift from the West to the East, its my feeling that change in economic attitudes will come where people have a healthy disrespect for the state, for propaganda, and the population generally values intellectualism, and savings.

Choice Soros quotes;

“Regulators can’t predict any better than the markets, in fact they are going to be less good at it than the markets. ”

“Regulator creates moral hazard. But if they didn’t intervene, markets would actually collapse, therefore they must intervene.”

“The evidence shows that they can’t”
in response to the claim that markets can correct themselves

“Without the regulators interfering, the financial system would collapse, would have collapsed a long, long time ago, and would continue to keep on collapsing. And that is why regulation has come into play.”

The quality of Soros’ doublespeak is unconvincing, and I think that the audience recognized it.

Since July 2008, Lew Rockwell of LewRockwell.com and Mises.org has been producing and providing podcasts (audio segments) through LRC. I’ve listened to every one of them, some many times, and find them all to be fantastic.

Lew posted the Top 10 Podcast link today.

Stop the Bailout!: Lew Rockwell on the Michael Reagan Show

There Is Hope: Ron Paul

My favorite of this lot, is the amazing Naomi Wolf interview. Perhaps I have listened to too much Ron Paul, Peter Schiff and Gerald Celente (who are all excellent btw), but the Noami Wolf interview was a great gateway to the left, and a really special moment where it turned into a conversation between two intelligent people sharing information and ideas.

Sadly, the left-libertarian doorstops (they have to be good for something) haven’t seemed to have done much to help promote it.

Some of my other favorites include (in no particular order)

28. What is Neoconservatism?

I hope more libertarians blog about and share these around. They appeal to all sorts of different groups, from anarchists to Reagan republicans, antiwar protestors to wall street observers.

I don’t have the time right now to do all of the research, but specific data won’t undermine the premise of this post.

If it takes 20 Palestinian “terrorists” to kill an Israeli, does this mean the Palestinians are really bad at terrorism? I’m the last guy to justify violence by anyone but the math simply does not add up. 7,000+ rockets over 8 years, but only 20 Israeli fatalities. Contrast that with thousands of Palestinians who have died at the hands of Israeli force during the same period.

Typically, we assume a single rocket (like a single terrorist/suicide bomber) to be capable of harming or killing more than one person. To the layman, or someone educated by the western media, 7,000 rockets is synonymous with at least 7,000 deaths. The facts don’t bear this out. And when one looks at these pathetic rockets, it’s a wonder they haven’t killed more than 20 some people by what can only be called sheer random chance.

Contrast that with American made bombs. The per bomb death totals, even the aggregate totals are never revealed. How many bombs will Israel drop on Gaza? How many people will die?

Obviously, I have sympathies for the Palestinians. I also have sympathies for Israelis. There are ways these conflicts can be solved without violence. But as long as the killing is distorted as justice, such resolutions will never become possible.

One positive outcome of this recent mass slaughter in Gaza, is that the world is re-aligning against dramatic and massive use of military force. Shock and awe is giving way to shock and horror.

As the global depression deepens, it’s important for those of us who would champion liberty to remind everyone that declining prosperity has definitely come at the expense of military adventurism, empire and conquest for the elites.

Her sinking with the loss of almost 1,200 lives caused such outrage that it propelled the U.S. into the First World War.

But now divers have revealed a dark secret about the cargo carried by the Lusitania on its final journey in May 1915.

Munitions they found in the hold suggest that the Germans had been right all along in claiming the ship was carrying war materials and was a legitimate military target.

Millions dead, trillions in destroyed prosperity and capital. What democracy has done is make the killing more efficient, more destructive and evil.

But then, it should come as no surprise because we know that democracy is the tie that binds socialism and fascism together. The two sides of the coin that is democracy.

The first Great Depression, and what is currently happening both in the USA and globally, clearly indicates that the purpose of the G20, besides being narcissistic and utterly futile, is off track.

The world does not need an economic New World Order. It does not need more global organizations to standardize and to organize. What is needed, is decentralization and deregulation. A resilient market is more flexible, not increasingly rigid.

One can’t help but see the misdirected energies of the political elite as sowing the seeds for the next crisis, just as the seeds for the current crisis were sown at least as far back as the creation of the Bank of England.

Of course the power elite would be utterly powerless in a system of economic freedom, enforcement of contract and property rights. Which is why they will continue to sow their seeds of destruction, and the everyday man, libertarian-aware or not, will continue to reap that whirlwind.

I read Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead (both by Ayn Rand) recently. I read Atlas Shrugged first, and by the end of the book, I wasn’t enjoying it as much as I did when I began it. I think around the time that Rearden and Taggart go on their roadtrip together, the book starts to lose momentum.

But enough about Atlas Shrugged.

I really enjoyed The Fountainhead. I thought Howard Roark was a great hero, the characters in this book are much more developed, the story actually has a plot that serves the ideology, instead of a plot hastily slapped on an ideology (as I felt it was with Atlas Shrugged).

I recommend both books, although The Fountainhead might be much easier for newbies. I regret sending copies of Atlas Shrugged to the two family members I wanted to encourage toward rational thinking. A.S. is simply too long and ends with a rushed whimper, after what seems like a 30 page speech.

The economy is going to hell in a hand basket. There are a lot of people who are totally ignorant and now exposing themselves, because the economy is increasingly becoming an important part of everyone’s life, and their irrational ideas and malformed opinions don’t hold up to the slightest rational scrutiny.

Now is the time. Not tomorrow, not next week, not after the US or Canadian elections. You have to help educate these people where possible. Some will argue. Forget about them. Move on to the next person. Close-minded people who won’t acknowledge their own failures of logic or lack of knowledge will eat up all of your time and provide little or no reward.

Now is the time to talk to your family, talk to your neighbors. Email around some quality YouTubes. Write a letter, make a phone call.

Later, it might be said we didn’t do enough. So please don’t be lazy and do nothing.

More on this later today.

Shame on you Harry Reid. Shame on you Nancy Pelosi. Shame on you Barack Obama.

History will not remember you fondly. You are the people who stole literally billions from your constituents on behalf of the banking cartels. The poor, the hungry and the homeless damn you forever. And the capitalists damn you too!

If you want bailout news, watch the Lew Rockwell blog, and if you want action materials and information, follow Ron Paul’s Campaign for Liberty website.

Now for fun. Lol Cats!

I will say there is so much backlash against the bailout, I’m loving it. If the bailout goes through and then inevitably fails to accomplish it’s goals, that pushes RP further into the spot light and agitates the people more.

If it doesn’t go through, those idiots in the United States Congress will have been put on notice. People will not stand for their corruption and ignorance any longer.

Win, win.
