So, SGU debuted last night on Syfy with the two hour long premiere, “Air”. I’ve watched it twice now. It’s even less watchable the second time around.

The show is too much BSG (Battlestar Galactica) for my liking. The overlit flashback/dream sequences, the too dark action sequences. Bear McCreary-ish music. Gratuitous and irrelevant sex.

It’s a shame when a show with so much production capital, squanders that capital on being a copycat of a series that crashed and burned on its own narcissism (BSG).

Excerpted from a brilliant comment on Gateworld,

Of course, the biggest wall banger of them all is the plot. Oh gee, I thought I already saw Battlestar Galactica? And yet here we are with the costumes, the camera work, and the plot (being stranded on a ship that’s dying). I get the whole thing about the show being centered around the characters, and that would be totally okay if it wasn’t so terrible and if the characters were so unlikable and so unbelievable, but as it stands this is a terrible continuation of the Stargate franchise. Apparently NBC confused “ratings” with “let’s sex this up and dumb it down.” That’s not what Stargate is about. But I suppose that won’t stop the closet sex scenes that add zero to the plot and platform of the show or the trigger-happy tension of betrayal and back-stabbing for what is predictably in store for us. Thankfully I don’t think it’ll make it past the first season.

The funniest part however, is the selfless Senator. As a voluntarist/ancap/libertarian, there is nothing funnier than a career tax eater sacrificing himself for the team. It’s about as likely as a midget getting voted to start in the NBA All-Star game.

Unless the game plan is changed, I doubt this show goes more than 3 seasons.

I have setup an account at twitter and added some folks I know have twitter accounts. You’re welcome to follow me, and if you have anything interesting to say, I may follow you back. I’m not sure how much I will use twitter, but it will either be a lot or very little. Social media is a regular commitment and I have online commitment issues.

@NoTreasonDixie

I have to confess, I don’t use a RSS reader. I actually visit sites by hand. It’s impossible to keep up with everything online. So I have a circuit of sites I visit hourly, and sites I visit daily and weekly. If someone can suggest a good online aggregator, I might consider using a feed reader. With my fingers in so many pies, I either need to limit my online exposure (my current approach) or leverage technology to get much more organized and efficient.

I’m going to go into the fir trees
There where I last saw her
But the evening is throwing a cloth upon the land
and upon the ways behind the edge of the forest
And the forest it is so black and empty
Woe is me, oh woe
And the birds sing no more

Without you I cannot be
Without you
With you I am alone too
Without you
Without you I count the hours without you
With you the seconds stand still
They aren’t worth it

On the branches in the ditches
it’s now silent and without life
And breathing becomes oh so hard for me
Woe is me, oh woe
And the birds sing no more

Without you I cannot be
Without you
With you I am alone too
Without you
Without you I count the hours without you
With you the seconds stand still
They aren’t worth it without you

A bout of deep depression.
Can’t seem to move it forward.
My lying eyes lie awake.
Not sure what I am after.

I never died before.

Can’t believe what happened yesterday.
I never stoned the crow, no.

Flip through endless stories.
A life of hand-written pain.
No one can share this hurt that is mine, mine, mine.

I never died before.

Jesus crying blood inside of me.
I shouldn’t stone the crow, no.

Ride on!

Same old city, same old pain.
No matter how I try,
No matter what I say,
I’m shamed, I’m blamed,

I banned myself for a month over at the Mises forum. Not wanting to create any drama,I didn’t bother posting on my profile or anything so I figured the small handful of people who might wonder where I am after a couple days could possibly end up here.

I wasn’t sure if it was possible to ban oneself, I don’t think it is possible on other community and forum software systems. I’m quite happy it worked. Begging someone to ban you can be a hit or miss proposition.

If you need to contact me before my ban is up, email dixieflatline [at] n-o-treason.com (remove dashes and other stuff).

I think I am going to take a break from reading, writing and arguing about liberty. I’ll probably post to the blog once in a while, but for the next few weeks, I think it’s time to focus on something else.

So in the meanwhile, here is what is up;

Mike G. has linked an interview conducted by Sunni. It’s so in depth and comprehensive, I’m not sure my interview project has anything to add. It had stalled out for awhile, and I planned to use snippets of my random convos with Mike to flesh it out, but for now, check out Sunni’s interview. It’s quite a wild ride.

David_Z is quickly becoming the Anarcho-Libertarian blogger on the web (courtesy of StandAloneComplex)

Wombatron moved from Blogger to WordPress, probably in an attempt to hide from me. No one can hide from me. Don’t talk crap about the highwayman.

Roderick Long’s blog continues to give me much enjoyment.

Just now Rachel Maddow’s show is featuring a clash between Maddow’s economically and historically illiterate assertion that FDR’s domestic programs ended the Great Depression and Mitch McConnell’s economically and historically illiterate assertion that World War II ended the Great Depression. Whee! Left-wing ignoramuses facing off against right-wing ignoramuses! Salvation through slaughtering piglets versus salvation through slaughtering people! Where’s that libertarian channel?

If there will be a libertarian channel, it won’t be started by left-libertarians, although I am sure they will petition and cry until someone allows them their own time slot, which they will use to talk about how many moles Proudhon had, memories from SEK3′s Saskatchewan childhood, or who would win between Benjamin Tucker and Henry George at arm wrestling or tiddlywinks. I recommend the show be called “The Power Snooze Hour”.

Now this might be too obvious, but anti-authoritarians, who are anti-capitalist, probably aren’t ideal candidates for entrepreneur of the year. One of us filthy misoid vulgar libertarians will have to manage that role. Until then Dr. Long, may Rachel Maddow, in all of her exquisite lesbo-feminism (which is totally hot imo), continue to rile and perturb you.

Random: I really hate cross posts. It’s like, “read this here, or read this there, I don’t care”.

I need more money. Back to work.

This is how capitalism is meant to be done. You start small, crushing your larger competitors, see them driven before you and hear the lamentations of their women, and then you walk away on top, before the small minded idiots or state (do I repeat myself) drag you down and destroy you like Henry Rearden in Atlas Shrugged.

That’s right, I’m crazy. I’m pulling the plug on a company I could have sold for millions. Why in the fucking world would I do something so stupid? Because I can. I don’t care about money. This is the way I’ve always done things…my way.

Fuck you too Sunshine Megatron. Good luck.

Obama nominee for Secretary of the Treasury, Timothy Geithner is a tax cheat. Looks like libertarians have finally infiltrated the highest offices of the state.

~~~
John McCain has been sucking up to Obama and Hillary Clinton. This is how the rank and file morons are spinning it.
The republicans need to stop battling with the Clintons and realize that Bill Clinton left this country is great shape which has been totally undone by George Bush and Dick Chaney. Hillary is the best person for this job. Hurray for McCain. He is a true patriot.
The sheep are well trained.
~~~

Word has it, if the economy gets bad enough, Obama will offer to be inaugurated every week. TV viewership was through the roof, euphoria was at near rapture levels and the $150 million spent on this event will “create a lot of jobs”.

It’s not such a crazy idea. There aren’t many good bands these days (in my opinion), maybe Pelosi and McCain can go on tour, do a singing duet act and raise money for Obama’s black sites that will eventually torture innocent people without the public embarrassment of a Guantanamo.

Hey, it’s the New World Order. Even states will have to become creative if they want to keep murdering and confiscating wealth.

~~~
In Canada, we have public holidays. Hopefully the Asian manufacturer nations join us in paying wages and taxes for an unworked day. This notion of getting paid only for what you do is an anachronism. All wealth flows from the state.
~~~

Sometimes we overlook subtle progress. Yesterday, Baracktrack Obama became the first half-white President of the United States of America. As a half-white person myself, this is a huge step forward for my people. To see my race finally recognized as equal to full whites is remarkable.

~~~
If people think that Obama signifies a change from Bush, one policy that will continue is the ability to fail upwards. Clinton lost the Presidential Primary race, and gets the Secretary of State slot.
The aforementioned Timothy Geithner failed throughout the Bush era as the Grey Lady reports. Won’t stop him from becoming the second most powerful man in America by taking over bailing out Wall Street at the expense of Main Street and future generations.
Robert Gates, an enormous failure at Secretary of Defense gets to stay on and keep murdering innocent civilians.
And that’s the spin.
Serj (lead vocals) always reminds me of David Yow from The Jesus Lizard, another amazing small club act. Of course, reminds me of Yow without the nudity or drunkenness. But the performance aspect is totally there.
System Of A Down – War?
Dark is the light,
The man you fight,
With all your prayers, incantations,
Running away, a trivial day,
Of judgment and deliverance,
To whom was sold, this bounty soul,
A gentile or a priest ?
Who victored over, the Seljuks,
When the holy land was taken
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
Was it the riches, of the land,
Powers of bright darkness,
That lead the noble, to the East,
To fight the lord
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We must call upon our bright darkness,
Beliefs, they’re the bullets of the wicked,
One was written on the sword,
For you must enter a room to destroy it, destroy it, destroy it.
No International security,
No Call of the righteous man,
Needs a reason to kill a man,
History teaches us so,
The reason he must attain,
Must be approved by his God,
His child, partisan brother of war,
Of war, we don’t speak anymore,
Of war, we don’t speak anymore,
Of war, we don’t speak anymore,
Of war, we don’t speak anymore,
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
We will fight the heathens, We will fight the heathens
-
Some other SOAD worth listening to;
Sugar
Spiders
I remember first listening to this band on the bus ride home from work in Vancouver. I don’t know where I got the tape from. Tapes. lol
